Polybush and Volvo Bus have jointly developed an Alternator Table Mount for the B7 TL buses which significantly reduces unpleasant vibration for the rear seat passengers.

This required extended trials on several buses and the development of a special heat resistant Polyurethane.

The work was carried out for some of the major London bus fleets, under the critical gaze of Transport for London.

Both Volvo and the operators were able to influence and improve the design and were given full technical support from Polybush.  Success was achieved at negligible cost to either party because Polybush are able to develop tooling and manufacture small batches quickly and inexpensively.

The Alternator Table is mounted directly onto the bulkhead between engine compartment and passenger cabin, and in one of the hottest areas in the engine compartment. This mount was developed to reduce vibration transmission from the Alternator Table into the rear of the Passenger Compartment of the bus.

 This vibration was causing significant passenger discomfort and dissatisfaction. 

Polybush supply JCB with engine mountings which are used successfully to to reduce vibrations on one of their 3 cylinder diesels. This design was adapted to further withstand: 

• High compression force imposed by the alternator belt at times of high load under engine acceleration.
• High Temperatures, using special heat resistant urethane 

As a result, vibration was reduced to acceptable levels, overcoming the problem completely. Further benefits include: 

Negligible cost to the customer.

Allowed the customer to influence all aspects of the design.
