Back in Autumn 2004, Lotus Cars contacted us out of the blue, expressing an interest in Polyurethane Bushes to keep the Lotus Esprit provided with parts and service support. 

A meeting ensued, at which Lotus issued us with drawings of a range of bushes for the Lotus Esprit. There were two factors driving their interest:

Firstly, Rubber Manufacturers found it difficult to provide Lotus with relatively small batches of product economically, now that the large mainstream car usage for the bushes had disappeared as the models that used them were now no longer in production. So there was a need to obtain secure and cost effective supplies of quality bushes in low volumes for general spares purposes.

Secondly, having developed relations with the Esprit owners clubs the exchange of information allows Lotus a beneficial influence over the way members approach modification and modernisation of their cars. It is just as easy to spoil the ride, handling and reliability of the car as it is to improve it.

One of those modifications was to fit polyurethane bushes and Lotus wished to market a  Polybush Kit. A kit that would enhance the car’s handling.

Polybush manufactured a full set of suspension bushes for the Esprit, keeping as closely as possible to the original designs, and to similar hardnesses.

Given that Lotus are acknowledged as having world leading facilities and expertise in suspension design and development, Polybush had a superb opportunity to see our bushes tested to extremes.

Lotus ran tests on the Polybushes to ascertain their basic properties – Axial and radial stiffness – and put the car on their hydraulic test rig to see what handling parameters were affected.

Using the results and feedback from the test drivers, Polybush have been able to use the test data given to enable us to manufacture bushes in compounds best suited to benefit the Esprit and it's overall handling.
