Automotive Development Engineer (Mechanical) - Suspension systems.

Polybush Development Engineer is responsible for technical design, development and product
launch of suspension components (bushes and mounts).

We are recruiting a Development Engineer - to develop our current range as well as being
responsible for designing new suspension components for both the general market and to meet
our O.E customer’s requirements.

Our Automotive Design Development Engineer will work within the Polybush Team to identify
new design specifications necessary to meet ride and handling requirements of Polybush customers.

If you have experience in suspension design with experience in the introduction of new product to
the automotive industry and are innovative this is the job for you.

As the Polybush Development Engineer a typical week’s activities may include the following:

  • Sourcing suspension components to assist the design process.
  • Designing a set of Jaguar or VW bushes.
  • Commercially validating your designs.
  • Liaising with our production team on your mould design.
  • Investigating customer complaints and queries to resolve issues.
  • Visiting customers to fit and test out your new designs.

The Company

Polybush design and manufacture vehicle suspension bushes working closely with our Commercial,
Military and Motorsport customer’s.
Polybush is wholly owned by Bonaprene Products a family business employing 50 people at our site
on the Wrexham Industrial Estate. Polybush is a team of 6 people working in a new, purpose built
open plan office.

Polybush is responsible for the sales and marketing of polyurethane suspension bushes manufactured
by Bonaprene Products. Supplying into both commercial and retail markets for the 4x4, bus, truck,
military, classic and modern day car after sales market.

The Role

To design, plan, test, and coordinate multiple processes of product development used in automotive
suspension design and application.

The primary responsibility of this position includes, but is not limited to:

 Responsible for the introduction of new products and the management of our existing
product range including updating of our change management system ensuring all product data is
correct to date.

 Reverse engineering product to identify problem areas of suspension systems and design
alternative problem solving bushes & mounts.

 Responsible for coordinating all product development activity between our manufacturing
department and the customer.

 Ability to comprehend and transfer customer requirements to cost effective suspension

 Facilitate and manage multiple design projects to test and completion.

 Directly communicate and interface with customers for issues regarding the products
including customers’ related concerns.

 Review and interface with customer for customer complaints and initiate and coordinate
actions internally to improve design and/or quality.

 Conduct and/or support component fitment and customer testing necessary for related

 Support sales staff to develop and establish marketing/pricing strategy.

 Support customer vehicle development work – related to suspension.

 Support and facilitate necessary PPAP activity to meet customer requirements.

What you have to offer

 Degree educated or have equivalent experience in an engineering discipline

 Experience in a manufacturing environment or a related field particularly mould
design would be very beneficial.

 A sound understanding of manufacturing techniques for eg: understand tolerances, limits
and fits.

 Be proficient with SolidWorks (or similar) & Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

 Have experience tracking and reporting design changes.

 Have experience coordinating and facilitating several small projects or one major project.

 Knowledge of suspension systems and components would be an advantage but not
 Experience interfacing with customers and to have excellent communication skills.

 Possess excellent analytical skills.
