The Jensen Interceptor is not the sort of car you buy by accident.
With its distinctive Italian-influenced styling, big American V8 and genuinely luxurious grand-touring character, the Interceptor has become one of the most recognisable British performance cars of its era. Today, owners are keeping these cars on the road for another generation, and that means finding the right replacement parts is just as important as preserving the cars themselves.
At Polybush, we have been developing Jensen Interceptor suspension bushes to help owners replace ageing rubber components with durable polyurethane alternatives.
Our Jensen Interceptor range was initially developed alongside Martin Robey, drawing on their experience supplying parts for Jensen vehicles. Since then, we have increasingly worked with the Jensen owners’ community to develop and refine the range further.
That matters because classic-car suspension isn’t simply about making a replacement part that fits. It is about understanding how the original component works, where the suspension needs controlled movement and where reducing unwanted flex can improve the car.
Many of the rubber suspension bushes fitted to classic Jensen Interceptors are now decades old.
Even when a rubber bush doesn’t look destroyed, age, heat, oil, road contamination and repeated suspension movement can cause the material to harden, crack or deteriorate. Once that happens, the suspension can no longer behave as it was intended to.
Polyurethane provides an alternative.
Our Jensen Interceptor polyurethane bushes are designed to provide controlled movement while resisting many of the ageing and environmental problems associated with conventional rubber.
For owners restoring an Interceptor, undertaking a suspension rebuild or simply looking to improve an already well-maintained car, replacing tired bushes can make a noticeable difference to suspension control and consistency.
Developing parts for a classic such as the Jensen Interceptor requires more than relying on catalogue dimensions.
Our initial development work was carried out alongside Martin Robey, a long-established supplier of Jensen parts. As the range has developed, our work with the Jensen owners’ club and the wider Jensen community has become increasingly important.
Owners are often the people who know these cars best. They understand the differences between model years, the practical realities of maintaining an Interceptor and, importantly, how a replacement component performs once the car is back on the road.
That feedback has helped us continually review the design and application of our Jensen bushes, with the aim of producing parts that are not only a direct replacement, but a properly considered upgrade.
Two versions of the front anti-roll bar bush are available for the Jensen Interceptor, depending on the diameter of the anti-roll bar.
The Polybush 54A is a Dynamic Black polyurethane front anti-roll bar bush designed for a 3/4-inch anti-roll bar.
It has a Shore A hardness of 75 and uses an ARB bush design. Each kit contains two polyurethane bushes and replaces OEM part CT387.
It is listed for a wide range of Jensen Interceptor variants, including:

The Polybush 54B provides the same Dynamic Black 75 Shore A polyurethane construction for Jensen Interceptors fitted with a 7/8-inch anti-roll bar.
Again replacing OEM part CT387, the kit contains two bushes and is available for the same broad range of Interceptor models.
The important point is to identify the anti-roll bar diameter on the vehicle before ordering.

The shock absorber mounting points are another area where replacing old rubber can help restore consistent suspension movement.
The Polybush 54C Front Shock Absorber Lower Bush – Jensen Interceptor
The Bowtie design contains two polyurethane bushes and replaces OEM part 846, forming part of the CT7964 application.

At the rear, the 54D is another Dynamic Black 75 Shore A Bowtie bush.
The set contains four polyurethane bushes and replaces OEM part 846, forming part of the CT6684 application.
The 54D has one of the broadest applications in the range and covers Interceptor variants from the early cars through to the Mk3, SP, Convertible and FF models.

The Jensen Interceptor’s suspension system includes several important mounting points where controlling movement is critical.
The 54E is a Performance Black polyurethane bush designed for the front leaf spring and front lower wishbone application.
At 85 Shore A, it is firmer than the Dynamic bushes used elsewhere in the range and uses a Top Hat design.
Each kit contains two bushes and replaces OEM part 26108.
The 54E is listed across the Interceptor Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, SP and Convertible, as well as the relevant FF models.

The 54F is a Performance Black 85 Shore A polyurethane leaf spring shackle bush.
Using a Top Hat design, each set contains four bushes and replaces OEM part CT282.
It is available for the Jensen Interceptor Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, SP, Convertible and FF variants.

The Panhard rod plays an important role in locating the axle laterally.
The 54G is a Dynamic Black 75 Shore A polyurethane Panhard rod bush using a Top Hat design. Each set contains four bushes and replaces OEM part 90520.
As with the other Jensen applications, the 54G has been developed around the requirements of the original suspension rather than being a generic polyurethane bush simply adapted to fit.

Our work on Jensen suspension parts is not limited to the 54-series bushes. We also have additional products from within the Polybush (Jaguar) range that fit to Jensen vehicles, including the 31C front lower wishbone bush, 31D shock absorber/drop link bush and 31E front upper wishbone bush.
These use our standard Jaguar designs, with different hardness options available depending on the application.

A classic Jensen deserves suspension components that are capable of coping with modern use. Polyurethane offers several advantages over ageing rubber:
Polyurethane is resistant to many of the factors that cause conventional rubber bushes to deteriorate, including oil, road grime, UV exposure, weathering and repeated suspension movement.
That makes it particularly useful on classic vehicles where replacement parts may need to last for many years.
Rubber needs to flex to allow the suspension to move. As it ages, however, that movement can become inconsistent.
Polyurethane provides controlled deflection, helping reduce unwanted movement through the suspension and improving steering response, stability and suspension control.
There is no single ‘best’ bush hardness for every suspension position. That is why Polybush uses different grades for different applications.
Our Dynamic Black material is 75 Shore A and is used throughout much of the Jensen range where controlled movement and road-going refinement are important.
Our Performance Black material is 85 Shore A and is used on applications where greater resistance to deflection is desirable.
This allows the bush to be selected according to the job it has to perform rather than simply fitting the hardest material available.
Polybush suspension bushes are designed for dry fitting.
Installation generally requires only tyre soap or washing-up liquid to help the bush slide into position, rather than grease that can attract dirt or affect certain polyurethane applications.
Every Polybush product is manufactured in the UK using our own specialist polyurethane formulations and production processes.

The Jensen Interceptor is now a classic in every sense of the word.
